2019 Spring Fair a Grand Success

Held on Saturday 14th September, we were greeted with a beautiful spring day and great attendance by visitors from far and wide. There was brilliant live music supplied by The Barnsley Boys, cake stalls, BBQ, plants, Lake Mac Repair Cafe, community group stalls and more.

Facilities at the Gardens continue to grow.
With an under cover area erected, complete with seating for adults and children, a book exchange, a seed bank and a compost bin system. Holmesville Community Garden is a shining example of what can be achieved when locals and council work together. Why not get involved?. Learn new skills, or just make new friends in an environment that is inspiring and restful.

How the Community Garden will work.
The Holmesville Community Garden is meant to serve as a place where residents of West Wallsend District can meet and share in the joys of gardening. By joining WWDSNG you automatically gain access to the gardens and can join in the developement and maintenence of the communal garden beds, or you can even sponsor your own garden bed for your personal benefit.

You can view and download the information flyer here. Click here to contact us about the gardens.

It is envisaged that produce from the gardens will be made available to garden members and the wider community through stalls that will be present at the garden site during the year.

If you are keen on becoming a part of the Holmesville Community Garden team, please send an email to westwallsenddistrictsng@gmail.com and we will be pleased to welcome you aboard.

General Rules and Conditions

Autumn planting.
With the hot weather now gone, autumn planting has been carried out.  Lettuce, spinach, brocolli, cabbage, spring onions, wombok, beetroot and some primulas and pansies for colour. If you want to be part of this exciting project, just contact us for details.

Christmas Present for the Gardens - Courtesy of NSW State Government.
In breaking news we have received our grant, in full, to construct a garden shelter with two table settings (one adult, one child). The grant was provided by NSW State Government through their Community Building Partnership scheme. A great Christmas bonus that allows us to provide some much-needed shelter and comfort within the gardens space. Work will commence in the new year with measurements and approvals to proceed initially.

The community garden continues to grow.
New garden beds and structures purchased and constructed with funding provided by Lake Macquarie City Council through their Environmental Sustainability Grant Scheme. The grant has allowed us to plant and grow our first summer crops. Whilst the grant covered costs for the purchase of materials, our dedicated volunteers provided "in kind" labour for construction. A bumper produce of lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions, beetroot and some lovely flower beds as well.

LMCC grant enables early plantings.
With funding provided by Lake Macquarie City Council through their Environmental Sustainability Grant Scheme, we were able to construct some much needed garden beds. Initially we planted flowers, a lemon tree and some ground cover. Soon we had a lovely display.

The Community Garden Hall.
Newly refurbished and undergoing constant updating, this meeting hall is ideal for small to medium sized groups requiring a quiet and comfortable place to gather. The hall features separate male and female toilets, kitchenette, meeting table, chairs, conveniently located power points and ample street parking. Entry is via a level path with no steps. For more information please email us here..
Holmesville Community Garden Logo
The site offers enormous potential with a secure, fully functioning clubhouse, featuring male and female toilets, kitchenette area, storage space and plenty of room for meetings. The building is surrounded by a pleasant grassed area with shade trees and access paths. The garden space itself is fully fenced and lockable and has great exposure in a busy part of Holmesville.

The whole facility is a tribute to the former Tennis Court committee and we have honoured these people and the gardens former role as a tennis court, by including elements of the sport of tennis in our garden logo.

On October 6, 2016 our group was handed the keys to the disused tennis courts on the corner of George & Charlotte streets, Holmesville for the purpose of transforming the site into a community garden. Not only have we saved a valuable space from further degradation, and eventually loss to the community, we now have the potential to transform the site in to something that the whole community can be a part of.

An operating committee has been formed to take control the building and its re-development, with the aim of bringing it up to a standard where it can be hired out to community and private groups for functions and meetings. The gardens themselves will be developed by WWDSNG and we invite all members of West Wallsend District to come on board this exciting development.
