Styles Point Planting Project

This project by the Rathmines Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group aims to re-establish native tree cover and understorey to improve bird habitat at three sites in Styles Point Park.

The group held a number of site preparation and planting days in Spring 2022 and Winter 2023.

More than 170 volunteers and participants were involved.
Volunteers planted more than 2000 native trees, shrubs, understorey and groundcover plants at three sites, including salt tolerant plants on the foreshore location.
The project established a valuable partnership with OzFish, who supported the winter community planting day.
Hunter Bird Observers are undertaking ongoing monitoring to assess the outcomes of the project.

This project is supported by Lake Macquarie City Council through its Community Environment Grants Program.
