  Sustainable Neighbourhoods Lake Macquarie
Help shape the future of the Rathmines Area
We are a group of residents from Balmoral, Fishing Point and Rathmines, who are working together to create a more sustainable Rathmines Area.
A strong, connected and resilient neighbourhood where we care for our natural, historic and cultural assets and enjoy a safe, active and friendly lifestyle.
Following the completion of a community survey in 2015, and community workshop in April 2016, we have now completed our Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP).

We are working on a number of community projects, including reducing litter in Rathmines Park, and establishing a community garden.

MASTER PLAN FOR RATHMINES PARK

LMCC is currently in the process of developing a Master Plan for the NSW Heritage listed Rathmines Park and has engaged the services of heritage consultants Umwelt Consulting to develop a Conservation Management Plan for Rathmines Park.
The draft Conservation Management Plan has now been released for comment and RASNG has put in a submission.
Click here to view the RASNG submission.

PROPOSED PATHWAY - KILABEN BAY TO RATHMINES

Click here to read about the proposal to link Kilaben Bay to Rathmines with a Walking/Cycling Pathway so walkers and cyclists can safely avoid the hazards of Wangi Road.

SCHOOL SURVEY

A survey of school children in local feeder schools was conducted by the Group in 2017 to determine what the children would like to see in Rathmines Park. The intention was to use this information as an input to the upcoming Rathmines Master Plan.
The summary from this survey has now been compiled and you can read it by clicking here.

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR IN RATHMINES

As a result of a meeting with Council, Tony Ellitt, the Community Planner – Youth & Safer Communities, suggested producing cards and flyers with phone numbers for contacting Police and Council when anti-social or criminal actions were seen to be taking place.
These have now been produced and places are now being arranged for these to be available for you.

SWAP BAGS NOW IN RATHMINES SHOPS

Swap Bags have now been introduced to Rathmines Shops and are located at the Butcher, IGA, and at the Catalina Function Centre.

The Lake Macquarie Sustainable Neighbourhood Alliance is registered as a not for profit incorporated association under NSW Fair Trading. Sustainable Neighbourhood activities are managed and governed by volunteers and financed through grants, collaboration and community fundraising.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land and waters on which we live, work and play, the Awabakal People, and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who now reside in this area. We pay our respect to Elders past and present, and future cultural knowledge holders.
