  Sustainable Neighbourhoods Lake Macquarie
Community gardens
Enjoy some good company, and the joy of gardening at a local community garden. Sustainable Neighbourhoods garden projects are located in Charlestown, Dudley, Holmesville and Redhead.

Charlestown Pool Community Garden

Charlestown Swim Centre, Dickinson Street, Charlestown.

Garden beds have been restablished in 2019, and producing a range of seasonal produce. Thank you to Swim Centre staff for allowing us to reestablish and manage the garden beds.

All welcome to participate casually in our working bees. Regular volunteers need to become members of the Greater Charlestown Sustainable Neighbourhood Group.

We meet on the third Sunday of every month at 9am. Visitors need to sign in at the front desk and then speak to a gardener.

Dudley Community Garden
Frank Watkins Park - behind the Dudley Pensioners and Senior Citizens Hall, Ocean St, Dudley

Established in 2015, the Dudley Community Garden includes a number of raised garden beds and native garden area.
All welcome to participate in monthly working bees, 2nd Saturday of the month, 9am.

Holmesville Community Garden
Old tennis court, 16 George Street, Holmesville

Share the workload and harvest from the communal garden beds for a small membership fee, or enquire about leasing a garden bed for your own use.
 
Everyone is welcome to attend the regular Garden Gatherings on the second Wednesday and fourth Saturday of the month, from 9am at the garden. Have a look around the garden and enjoy a social catch up and cuppa.

Redhead Community Garden
Redhead Public School, Beach Road, Redhead

Garden goals:
  • Create spaces for positive community activity and projects for all residents
  • Establish and manage community food gardens for the supply of fresh organic,non-genetically modified healthy foods
  • Reduce food miles
  • Share ideas, skills and experience about growing food according to the seasons and local conditions
  • Learn sustainable living skills
  • Link with the greater global community garden movement, and
  • Run education and information workshops
A 300sqm site located within the grounds of Redhead Public School on Beach Rd, Redhead has been generously donated to establish a Community Garden.
