Solar Sense
The Valentine Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group have been helping demystify solar and encouraging its uptake by educating and informing our community about the benefits.
The group delivered four free workshops through their Solar Sense project which incorporated a range of topics to help participants overcome barriers to investing in solar for their household. Some workshop topics included how solar, inverters and batteries work, energy efficiency, energy bills, government rebates and working with solar installers.
More than 120 people from around the city attended the workshops.
The group compared aerial images to identify the presence of solar installations in Valentine at the beginning and end of the project and estimated up to a 10% increase over the life of the project.
The group also developed a guideline for installing solar in medium density strata properties, which was tested and successfully taken up by a participant.
