  Sustainable Neighbourhoods Lake Macquarie
TRASH - Textile Recycling and Sewing Hub
Australians dispose of 6000kg of textile waste every 10 minutes!
Help us create a local solution to rescue, reuse, refashion and recycle.

We are hosting this exciting project to establish TRASH Inc (Textile Recycling and Sewing Hub) in Toronto - a space for young and old to connect and create together and encourage sustainable behaviours.

The project is being proposed by two Toronto locals, Geraldine and Susan, who are committed to reducing textile waste, and creating a community sewing hub.

TRASH Bags will empower our community to divert unwanted textiles from landfill through reusing, upcycling and recycling.
Vote before 15 August
The TRASH Inc project has been shortlisted for funding in the NSW Government's My Community Project grant program, in the Lake Macquarie electorate.

We need your support to receive funding.

You can vote for your top 3-5 projects in your electorate. You need a MyServiceNSW account to vote, or can visit a Service NSW centre. The projects that receive the most support will receive funding. Voting closes 15 August.

To find out more, and cast your vote, visit mycommunityproject.service.nsw.gov.au.
Find out more about the TRASH Inc project, and how to vote for us!
TRASH Bags will establish an accessible not-for-profit retail space in Toronto, staffed by a manager and volunteers, to deliver community education, resource recovery, upcycling and eco products. We will bring vibrancy to Toronto, and ease the burden on household budgets by empowering the community to repair and upcycle their wardrobe.
We will create a vibrant hub to provide all the equipment, materials, expertise and support for our community to participate in a circular economy - a space for young and old to connect and create together and encourage sustainable behaviours.
The project will create:
  • A community sewing hub with equipment and support.
  • Sewing and upcycling classes and studio access.
  • A collection point for textiles, to be either reused or transported to a recycling facility.
  • A vibrant, accessible community hub for similar projects like Repair Cafe events and more.
