  Sustainable Neighbourhoods Lake Macquarie
Dudley Mural Project
The 'Welcome to Dudley' Mural covers the entire western wall of The Shop, opposite Dudley Public School.  The mural celebrates our:
  • unique village
  • ocean and coast
  • historic coal
    mining, and
  • natural environment.
The mural project commenced with the first Dudley Sustainable Neighbourhood workshop in 2011.  Our group worked with a contemporary mural artist and former Newcastle resident, Joel Cameron to develop a concept portraying elements which make Dudley a special place.  The mural also includes some detail work of our local artists and children.

The mural has become an icon amongst the Dudley community who proudly acknowledge that it reflects their village on an environmental, cultural and social level.

The generosity and enthusiasm shown by so many people in the Dudley community was overwhelming, and is highlighted by the significant cash donations received.
Following the completion of the mural, we delivered a short presentation to other community groups about how we achieved this for our community.  You can download a summary of our presentation here.

Sustainable Neighbourhoods Lake Macquarie
Our vision - Neighbourhoods that are empowered to live sustainably.
Our mission - Our work is to foster sustainable neighbourhoods and a healthy environment in Lake Macquarie
Our values - We are guided by our values of participation, inclusion, collaboration, empowerment and shared responsibility.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land and waters on which we live, work and play, the Awabakal People, and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who now reside in this area. We pay our respect to Elders past and present, and future cultural knowledge holders.

The Lake Macquarie Sustainable Neighbourhood Alliance is registered as a not for profit incorporated association under NSW Fair Trading. Sustainable Neighbourhood activities are managed and governed by volunteers and financed through grants, collaboration and community fundraising.
