WANGI WANGI TURNS 100 IN 2016

Help celebrate our 100th anniversary. This celebration will take place on Sunday 23rd October 2016.

It will include a large variety of activities to bring the community together and also to promote aspects of sustainability within the community. It will be 100 years since the first legal subdivision was formalised in Wangi.

The planning and preparation for the Event is well underway. Activities will be spread around the Wangi area from the Fire Station, Football Oval, across to the Bowling Club, the Wangi Workers Club, around the foreshore, Dobell House, Kent Place, the Library, Dobell Park around the Wangi shopping village area, the RSL Club, the Sailing Club and the Wangi Ridge where the WW2 Gun Emplacement Bunkers are.

Some of the activities we are planning include:
    Car and historical vehicle display (up to around 200 vehicles)
    Display and demonstration by the local Fire Station
    Floral Art display
    Barefoot Bowls
    Solar Sailor cruise
    Evening Ball at the Wangi Workers Club
    Various entertainment around the area
    Historical displays at the RSL and Sailing Clubs
    Some personal profiles of longer term Wangi residents
    Sailing regatta
    Picnic lunch in Dobell Park
    Landcare activities and centenary tree planting
    Dobell Art display and other art and craft displays by local groups
    Welcoming ceremony by local dignitaries
    A time capsule filling and burial ceremony
    Production of 100 centenary medals to mark the occasion

We would love you to join us.  Mark the date (23/10/2016) in your calendar.

As the planning and preparation progresses, we will keep the Centenary Celebration information updated.
