Improving Community Infrastructure and Assets

Objectives:
  1. Maximise community health through providing safe, accessible and sufficient active transport routes and;
  2. Ensure the neighbourhood has adequate community assets to support local active community groups and local tourism.

Project 1: Improve pedestrian and bike accessibility around the area
Aim: Give more people the opportunity to safely walk and/or cycle around the local area.

Survey the local community in order to understand what they need/want and identify priority areas for pedestrian/cycle path improvement and/or new paths
Review local street signage and road speeds
Identify opportunities to work with Council and other relevant organisations to act on suggestions prioritised by the community

Project 2: Beautify and enhance town hubs and residential areas
Aim: Create beautiful and vibrant spaces that the community are proud of and love to use.

Action Outcomes  Create a plan for beatification and better use of of town hubs and residential areas

Create an overarching plan for beatification of village hubs and residential areas
  • Prioritise plan areas and actions
  • Engage relevant stakeholders
  • Source funding – grants, sponsors etc.
  • Gain appropriate approval for work or lobby organisations to undertake the work
Consider the community’s ideas listed below
  • Increased and better use of the library as a community education and resource centre
  • Create a log of curb and guttering issues that exist in the Sustainable Neighbourhood area
  • Provide the information to Council so that issues can be considered in Council’s works scheduling
  • Source funds to paint shop awnings of shops along Watkins Rd, Wangi Wangi
  • Unify shop colours  e.g. gelato/sherbet colours
  • Tie in with local groups working on street beatification such as the local Men’s Shed
  • Consult and work with stakeholders and the wider community
  • Source funds to sponsor a public art sculpture in Dobell Park

Project 3: Care for Wangi Ridge Reserve WWII instalments
Aim: Protect an important cultural and historical asset and; attract more visitors to the area.

Action Outcomes 

  1. Install a memorial plaque on site outlining the historical significance of the site Informs the local community of the historical significant of the site
  2. Build respect and appreciating in community youth
  3. Prevent vandalism
  4. Preserve heritage values
  5.   Clean up Australia Day activity on site  
  6. Local School excursion (heritage tour)  
  7. Anzac day memorial service
