Renew Lambton Colliery
Appreciating how important it is to preserve and renew one of our local historical sites, the RSN was the successful grant recipient of $145,000 to refurbish the site, via the Lake Macquarie City Council. This historical site has since been successfully restored and preserved, and it’s now home of the Redhead Men’s Shed.

Bag-making Workshop
In 2016, Alison, a member of our group, organised a Bag-making community workshop that taught participants how to make reusable bags in a friendly and encouraging environment. Our thanks go to Cathy from Transition Newcastle and Lurline for running the workshop, and to the Redhead Anglican Church for allowing us to use their hall. This is the type of shopping bag we made at the workshop.
If you’d like to save on plastics, and make your own bags, visit www.craftster.org to see the whole tutorial, or download the pdfs below

ANZAC Centenary Project
In 2015, for their ANZAC Centenary project, the Redhead Public School recognised the centenary of Australia's involvement in the First World War by erecting a plaque in the school's ANZAC memorial garden to honour the three ex-students killed in World War 1; creating a set of murals on a small building behind the school’s memorial garden; and researching the soldiers from Redhead who were in WW1.
This project resulted in the publishing of Robert Neil Bowd’s book titled: "Marching for Honour, Recognition and Adventure - The story of the participation of Redhead soldiers in World War 1.
Our thanks go to Colin Mondy who prepared the successful grant application; Jo Clews, the school’s principal at that time; Andrew Dunkin for the murals and plaques; Lyn Norton, the project’s artistic coordinator; and many local artists and businesses who contributed to the project’s success.

Surfest Longboard Competition
In 2015, and for the very first time, the Lake Macquarie City Council hosted the Surfest Longboard competition. As part of this event, the RSN took part in the “Redhead Community Trail” by providing some engaging environmental education and showcasing local environmental organisations, including Redhead’s Sustainable Neighbourhood Group, Community Garden group, and the local Landcare groups.
