A bit of background
As you may know, when Council first developed a Sustainable Neighbourhood group in this area back in 2009, the focus was on the suburb of Morisset. Since then community members from the Morisset Peninsula have heard about the Program and have been welcome participants in the group. The group subsequently changed their name to the Morisset and Peninsula Sustainable Neighbourhood Group, but the formal engagement activities that Council normally undertakes to let people know about a Sustainable Neighbourhood group haven't happened... until now!
In November 2014, the Sustainable Neighbourhoods survey was posted to all residents in the Morisset and Peninsula Area. Residents told us about what they feel is important in their community and for our local environment. These survey results were discussed at the March community workshop (see details below).
Morisset and Peninsula Workshop
Wednesday 25 March 2015 6.00 - 7.30pm The Morisset and Peninsula Sustainable Neighbourhood Workshop was a great successes with 26 community members attending the 25 March event and some excellent outcomes. Participants stated the best part of the workshop was ‘meeting other residents’ and working together to come up with a neighbourhood vision, and projects, for the future. Two agreed priority values from the workshop were the local natural environment and community connectedness; with projects based around these themes. Nearly 20% of participants who were not already members nominated to join the group to continue to work towards a more sustainable Lake Macquarie. If you were unable to attend the workshop, it’s never too late to get involved! The Morisset and Peninsula Sustainable Neighbourhood Coordinating Committee meets the second Thursday of each month. At the meetings discussions will continue and will centre on group organisation in order to get projects underway. You are warmly welcomed to be part of the expansion process of this exciting group.
