Celebration in the Park
When our group expanded to the Greater Charlestown Area we wanted to let everyone know, and to encourage our residents to utilise our wonderful community spaces.
We decided to hold a community celebration at Kahibah Memorial Park to get people together, let them know about some existing local organisations, and to celebrate the launch of our Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan. We made a big effort to let people know about the event, by leafleting our promotional flier to about 1700 households in our neighbourhood. The day was a wonderful success, with over 140 residents enjoying a relaxed afternoon. Steven Slee from the Awabakal Land Aboriginal Land Council Welcomed us to Country, and Mayor Jodie Harrison officially launched our group. The Charlestown Guides put on a sausage sizzle and we all enjoyed music from local musician, Sarah Christine. Participants took part in a nature hunt and other kids activities with the Girl Guides and found out all about some interesting projects such as the Charlestown to Coast cycleway group, the Park with No Name group from Kahibah, and Council's Backyard for Habitat program. Whitebridge High School students also presented an electric vehicle demonstration. |
