  Sustainable Neighbourhoods Lake Macquarie
Online collaboration - training
Part of a series of gatherings for Sustainable Neighbourhood and other community volunteers to celebrate their achievements and share ideas.
This informal training session was hosted by the Dudley Sustainable Neighbourhood Group on 22 July 2014.
Here's a brief summary...
Online collaboration is becoming easier to use and helps groups maximise the limited shared time and combined knowledge of members.  This session aimed to demonstrate why groups could benefit from online collaboration, and reasons that may help or inhibit Sustainable Neighbourhood groups to engage with people and use technologies that support collaborative projects.
Some of our Sustainable Neighbourhood groups have been using these tools with great success.

Dan demonstrated a selection of online tools your group could use to:
  • Promote your group and events
  • Facilitate organising and discussion
  • Share and manage documents
  • Manage email lists and e-newsletters
We had an ambitious plan to cover these tools:
  • Groupspaces
  • Facebook
  • Google Drive and Google Calendar
  • Basecamp
  • Bitium
  • Skype
  • GoToMeeting
  • MailChimp
... but ended up focussing mainly on Groupspaces and Google Drive.

Dan has set up this online community space, for us to continue to discuss and share our new-found knowledge!  Click this link to join in some of the follow up discussion:  https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/105304270643279356581
You can also download this pdf document that gives a brief introduction to some of these tools:

And here are some extra notes from the evening:

Please let us know if there's a particular online tool or function you'd like to find out more about in future.
Thank you to Dan for running the session!
Participant feedback highlighted that it was a valuable and enjoyable evening.
