Supporting a ban on plastic bags in NSW

In June 2015 we surveyed our membership to gauge the level of support for a campaign and what kinds of actions our members believe we should focus on.
In general, respondents were supportive of a campaign to support a ban on plastic bags (96%), and of the proposed positions and actions that were included in the background paper.
The survey results also highlighted some interesting perspectives and ideas to note:

- Uncertainty or confusion about different types of plastic bags, eg biodegradable, degradable, compostable, barrier bags, checkout bags etc – what they are, and their various properties and impacts.
- Importance of education and community engagement
- Finding alternative bin liners
- Broader community attitudes
