Edible Gardening Group Support (EGGS)

Background

Veggie gardeners in the LT Creek Sustainable Neighbourhood Group wanted to find ways to support each other in growing their own food.

How did we do it?

Several gardeners formed EGGS (Edible Gardening Group Support).  EGGS meets monthly at a gardener, or prospective gardeners house, to tour their garden, have a working bee, trouble shoot garden issues, or help design a new garden.  The group meets at a different garden each month, to share ideas, skills, food and good company.

What we've achieved

EGGS has allowed members to:

• increase their knowledge and skills in growing their own food
• share resources - seeds, seedlings, excess garden produce
• share skills, knowledge and experience
• meet people in their neighbourhood with a common passion for growing and eating their own food
• create a group where everyone is welcomed

The group has increased in numbers each meeting and is a very social and enjoyable activity for everyone involved.  The group has begun to discuss ways to create habitat friendly gardens.
