Check out this video of Sian and Gavin demonstrating how to make them in the ABC1233 studio. A great alternative to plastic cling wrap. |
REPORT ON BEESWAX WRAP MAKING WORKSHOP - SEPTEMBER 2017
Those lucky enough to attend this CASNG Share a Skill - Learn a Skill Workshop were treated to a friendly, enjoyable and informative day - all participants left with a smile on their face and a handful of new beeswax wraps.
Wrapping food, or covering food containers, in beeswax coated fabric is a much better way to protect your health than using plastic wrap.
Sian & Gavin Ord organised and ran the event on behalf of CASNG, and participants attended from Cardiff and suburbs around the area. The response to this event was huge, and many people missed out - but CASNG will organise another workshop in 2018.
This was CASNG's first offering of this workshop, and as such was run as a no-cost event - however, the cost of materials and hall hire will require us to charge a small fee for future Beeswax Wrap workshops.
Ulinga Park Community Hall was an excellent venue for this event, and thanks to Jenny & Sian for organising a morning tea that was enjoyed by all.
Waxed cloth wraps can be reused for up to six months and are water-resistant as well.
The beeswax wraps can be used to cover bowls and plates, wrap sandwiches or blocks of cheese, and you can even mould it to shape using the warmth of your hands. Each wrap should last several months, and if it gets soiled, simply hand-wash it in cold water and allow it to air dry. If the wrap starts to lose its grip over time, simply repeat this process to re-wax it, and it will be good as new.
Waxed cloth is washable, reusable and compostable.
