Living Sustainably Objective: To reduce the community’s environmental impact whilst simultaneously developing and supporting resilient, connected and healthy local communities.
Project 1: Design, organise and build a local community garden

Aims:
1. Develop a community hub to foster neighbourly connections; 2. Reduce the community’s ecological footprint through the reduction or elimination of inefficiencies associated with food production, storage and transport; and 3. Create a community learning hub centred on sharing skills and knowledge. |
Project 2: Improve local public transport
Aim: Improve public transport links between village hubs.
Identify transport needs of the community and whether or not needs are being met.
Contact relevant stakeholders such as Council.
If no information exists, conduct a local transport survey.
Identify gaps where transport is required (e.g. buses between Wangi Wangi and Morriset).
Engage stakeholders.Pass on findings.Identify whether any groups are willing to meet the gap with a community bus
Lobby or provide input into any local planning or studies being conducted by relevant organisations such as:

Project 3: Improve waste management
Aim: Reduce local environmental impacts by minimising waste to landfill, increasing recycling and composting.
Members will look into current waste infrastructure in and around public space.Identify where and how infrastructure could be improved. List infrastructure, highlighting deficiencies/opportunities for improvement. Increase community knowledge. Lobby relevant organisations for improved infrastructure. Write articles in local newsletter Increase knowledge and skill level in the community. Increased compost and worm castings to be used in community garden or people’s homes. Investigate Swap meets.
Work with Council to increase waste education in the local area through:
Project 4: Organise Solar Bulk-buy for Local residences/businesses
Aims:
Objective: Get the best use of existing community assets and develop new assets where most needed.
Aim: Reduce local environmental impacts by minimising waste to landfill, increasing recycling and composting.
Members will look into current waste infrastructure in and around public space.Identify where and how infrastructure could be improved. List infrastructure, highlighting deficiencies/opportunities for improvement. Increase community knowledge. Lobby relevant organisations for improved infrastructure. Write articles in local newsletter Increase knowledge and skill level in the community. Increased compost and worm castings to be used in community garden or people’s homes. Investigate Swap meets.

Project 4: Organise Solar Bulk-buy for Local residences/businesses
Aims:
- Reduce costs for residents associated with the purchase of solar power infrastructure for their homes
- Decrease community’s reliance on fossil fuels for power and;
- Reduce the community’s environmental footprint by decreasing local greenhouse gas emissions.
Objective: Get the best use of existing community assets and develop new assets where most needed.
