Protect and Enhance our Natural Environment
Objective: To support and maintain local ecosystems. Protect the vital ecosystem services (fresh air, cleaner water, healthier soil, reduced pollution and reduced greenhouse gas emissions) they provide.
Project 1: Protect native vegetation, replant vegetation and weed out introduced and invasive species Aim: Develop resilient and healthy ecosystems which support a wide diversity of native flora and fauna. Project 2: Effectively communicate within the project team and the community Aim: Increase community knowledge and skills in environmental conservation, practised in the field and in the backyard. |
Project 3: Manage and control feral fauna
Aim: Support and conserve native fauna and flora populations. The group will develop an event coordinating committee to oversee implementation. Develop a general public communication strategy to engage a wider cross section of the general public. Recruit more volunteers. Provide community education, Site tours, Workshops, Working bees Cleanup Australia Day events. Increase the awareness of significance of the area. Living Sustainably Objective: To reduce the community’s environmental impact whilst simultaneously developing and supporting resilient, connected and healthy local communities. Project 4: Efficient living and the use of solar energy in the home Aim: Educate the community in the financial and environmental advantages of an energy efficient home. Draw attention to the reduced costs associated with: 1. Use of solar power and solar hot water; 2. Heating and cooling by the control of sunlight with pergolas, verandas, deciduous species planting and shades; 3. Water storage and the prevention of evaporation 4. Planting drought resistant native vegetation. |
