Renewal of Lambton Colliery Buildings

Background

The Redhead Sustainable Neighbourhood Group felt it was important to preserve and renew one of their important local historical sites.

How did we do it?

The group made several submissions to the NSW State Government, asking for the site to be refurbished and preserved.  The group also met with Lake Macquarie City Council representatives, making connections between residents, community groups and government.

What we achieved

Based on submissions provided by the group, Lake Macquarie City Council was given a grant of $145,000 to refurbish the site!
Together the group was able to play an important role in:
  • Preserving a historical site
  • Ensuring sustainable reuse of an existing building; and
  • Creating partnerships between State government, Local Government and residents.

The group has a number of ideas for the site, which they will be presenting to Council.
